Why it matters

The roof is where the money is. See it properly.

A conventional survey inspects the roof from the ground with binoculars, from neighbouring vantage points, and from inside the loft. That is the RICS standard and it is usually adequate. But on a terrace with no rear access, a tall Victorian villa, a stone farmhouse with a valley gutter, or any property with a chimney stack you can't see from the street, the parts most likely to cost you thousands are the parts least likely to be seen.

A drone changes that. In a few minutes it records every slope, ridge, hip, valley, flashing, stack and gutter in high resolution — and the findings go straight into your survey, with the images annotated so you can see exactly what we mean.

What a drone survey typically finds

• Slipped, cracked and missing slates or tiles beyond the reach of binoculars
• Failed or lifted lead flashings and soakers at chimneys and abutments
• Cracked chimney pots, eroded stacks and defective flaunching
• Blocked or sagging valley and parapet gutters, and ponding on flat roofs
• Deteriorated ridge and hip mortar, vegetation growth and moss loading
• The condition of extension and outbuilding roofs not visible from the ground

Flights are carried out by a registered drone operator in accordance with UK Civil Aviation Authority requirements, with airspace checked in advance for every property — including the restricted zones around Newcastle International Airport — and neighbours' privacy respected. Where a flight is not permitted we say so at quotation.
